Apples big AI Gamble

Apple is reportedly eyeing a potential acquisition of Perplexity AI, aiming to boost its talent pool and pave the way for an AI-driven search engine in the future, as per Bloomberg’s insights.

Adrian Perica, who heads Apple’s mergers and acquisitions, has already had discussions about this with Eddy Cue, the senior vice president of services, along with other key players in Apple’s AI initiatives. However, it’s still in the early phases: Apple hasn’t yet approached Perplexity with a formal bid, and these internal discussions might not even culminate in an official offer. Interestingly, the executives have also floated the idea of collaborating with Perplexity instead of going for a full acquisition. Regardless of the route they choose, the goal remains the same: to create an AI search engine powered by Perplexity and to weave its technology into Siri. While no formal offer has been made yet, Bloomberg reports that Apple has had several meetings with Perplexity over the last few months.7
